Country music's messiest divorce just got a new commentator. Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia unloaded on Jelly Roll during a recent episode of her Plan Bri Uncut podcast, accusing Bunnie Xo of shielding her estranged husband from public scrutiny while privately hurting.
"She's still under the mind control of him," LaPaglia claimed, relying on her past relationship experiences as evidence. "She just still wants to protect him," she added, questioning why Bunnie has stayed so publicly gracious since news of the split broke in June. Among her unsubstantiated claims: that Jelly Roll changed after losing weight and now believes he can find someone younger. LaPaglia also speculated the singer would pursue a "tradwife" going forward.
The remarks carry extra charge because LaPaglia is no stranger to celebrity breakup fallout. She became famous as a podcast host while dating Zach Bryan beginning in mid-2023, and their late 2024 breakup made celebrity news after she claimed he tried to pay her $12 million to stay silent. She turned down the money and has since revealed unflattering details about their time together. Most observers believe that experience is informing her read on this situation.
For those catching up: Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo (born Alisa DeFord) in Williamson County, Tennessee, on May 18. He listed the date of separation as May 9 and cited irreconcilable differences. Bunnie later revealed on her Dumb Blonde podcast that the pair got into an argument on Mother's Day, during which she told him to file the papers out of anger. She insisted the divorce was "not mutual" and said she had been "speaking out of anger and just frustration."
Their relationship had long been positioned as a redemption narrative. The pair first met in 2015 when she attended one of his concerts in Las Vegas. By February 2026, DeFord had won three trophies at the Grammy Awards, including Best Contemporary Country Album for Beautifully Broken. During his acceptance speech, he thanked Bunnie directly. "I would've never changed my life without you," he said. "I'd have ended up dead or in jail."
That public devotion is partly why LaPaglia's accusation stings. She argued there would be no Jelly Roll at this level without Bunnie and called him "icky" for leaving after achieving success. It remains unclear whether LaPaglia has ever met or interacted with either party.
Bunnie, for her part, has maintained a measured tone throughout. "My husband and I are ending this marriage on the best possible terms," she said on a June 18 episode of Dumb Blonde. She also announced that the former couple is still expecting a baby together via surrogate. Whether that composure reads as genuine peace or something more complicated is exactly the question dividing fans right now.
