Pakistan's relationship with the Miss Universe stage is still young. Only three years old, in fact. So every title holder added to that short list carries a certain weight that older, more established franchises rarely feel anymore.
Misbah Arshad has been crowned Miss Universe Pakistan 2026, becoming the fourth Pakistani woman to represent the country at the international Miss Universe competition. The crowning ceremony was held at the Rizal Park Hotel in Manila, Philippines.
Franchise owner Josh Yugen presented Arshad with the sash while her predecessor, Roma Riaz, placed the crown on her head.
Arshad emerged victorious after competing against 10 finalists. Born in 2000, she is originally from Lahore. She is currently based in Munich, Germany, where she is studying psychology at the University of Hagen. That combination, a psychology student living abroad who competes internationally, says something about the kind of competitor she is.
Arshad is no newcomer to any of this. She previously represented Pakistan at Miss International 2023 in Japan and Miss Supranational 2024 in Poland. She also holds the titles of Miss Pakistan World 2023 and Miss Aura Pakistan 2023, establishing herself as a prominent Pakistani participant in international beauty competitions. By the time the Miss Universe Pakistan crown found her, she had already logged serious mileage on the global pageant circuit.
She revealed the meaning behind her winning gown, designed by Vietnamese designer Nguyễn Tiến Truyển. The all-white piece was deliberate. "This gown is pure white, because it is the colour of hope, a reminder to never stop believing in your dreams," Arshad said. The royal blue crystals, she explained, symbolised education and knowledge gained through continuous learning.
On her Instagram following the coronation, Arshad shared a message about perseverance, stressing that failure does not determine whether someone is a winner. "What does is keeping hope alive, continuing to put effort and becoming better with every step," she wrote. She also described the people she met throughout the journey as the real reward. She wrote: "The beautiful souls you meet along the way. All of this makes you feel deeply human."
That kind of reflection feels earned. The Miss Universe Pakistan franchise is only three years old, and it has never been without friction. The franchise launched in 2023, with Erica Robin becoming the country's first representative at the international competition, where she made history by reaching the Top 20 at Miss Universe in El Salvador.
Her appearance also attracted international attention for her choice of a pink metallic burkini during the swimsuit preliminary round. The franchise has been mired in controversy, with social media outrage over Pakistan's participation and the government denying it had given approval.
Noor Xarmina represented Pakistan at Miss Universe 2024 in Mexico, while Roma Riaz became the country's representative in 2025. Arshad now steps into that line as the fourth title holder. Each year the franchise has pushed further, and each cycle has brought a different kind of scrutiny, conversation, and ultimately, visibility for Pakistani women on a global stage.
As the newly crowned Miss Universe Pakistan, Arshad is now preparing to travel to Puerto Rico for the 75th edition of the Miss Universe competition. The global event is scheduled for November 24 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where contestants from around the world will compete for the prestigious title.
Arshad advocates for women's education in her country. Given that platform, and given what the franchise has already built in just three years, November should be worth watching.
