Disney's teen stable has a long history of turning press junkets into accidental soap operas, and this week it happened again. During a joint interview promoting Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, Kylie Cantrall rolled her eyes at co-star Malia Baker, and the clip has not stopped circulating since.
The moment came during a sit-down with ETalk, where Cantrall and Baker were asked what the franchise has taught them about friendship. Baker answered first, telling the interviewer, "I think it's taught me a lot about loyalty and trust." Cantrall's reaction, an unmistakable eye roll caught on camera, immediately took over social media feeds.
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the fifth film in Disney's fairy tale reboot series, casts Cantrall as Red and Baker as Chloe. The two played close friends and rivals in Descendants: The Rise of Red, and their offscreen bond once mirrored that closeness. Cantrall previously described meeting Baker as feeling like "love at first sight," recalling how she pushed casting directors to bring Baker aboard as Chloe.
That warmth has since curdled into public speculation, most of it tied to Zombies actor Malachi Barton. Fans began linking Cantrall and Barton romantically during the Descendants/Zombies: Worlds Collide Tour last summer, though neither confirmed a relationship. Reports indicate the pair had reportedly split by October 2025, and rumors soon followed that Barton had moved on with Baker.
None of the three actors has addressed the rumors directly, and there is no verified confirmation that any romantic entanglement occurred. What is clear is the timing: Cantrall's eye roll landed just as fans were already primed to read tension into every interaction between the two stars.
Cantrall has hinted, without naming names, that her personal life shaped her upcoming album. In an April interview with Galore, she described Valley Girl Problems as written "like a diary," adding that the songs reflect "the messy parts," including what she called "my very public love triangle." She went further, saying that the situation "unraveled while in the midst of writing" and would surface as songs about "hurt and betrayal."
Neither Cantrall nor Baker has publicly confirmed a falling out, and Disney has stayed silent on the speculation. Still, the eye roll clip has racked up traction across X, TikTok and Reddit within a day of surfacing, keeping the pressure on both stars heading into the film's release. Valley Girl Problems arrives July 24, and if the lyrics match the hints Cantrall has already dropped, the album could end up saying more than either actress has said on camera.
