Atlanta's art calendar has a habit of saving its loudest swings for summer, and tonight's entry may be the most unapologetically extravagant yet.
Sir Nicholas Lucius will debut Feast Your Eyes at Gallery Anderson Smith in Midtown, arriving as one of the city's most immersive cultural experiences of the season. The exhibition brings contemporary art, haute couture, pop surrealism, and glamour together under one roof. It runs through July 11, with opening night set for June 27.
Lucius is a Tampa-based mixed-media artist whose new collection features one-of-one original works layered with paint, collage, textiles, metallic leaf, pearls, diamond dust, rhinestones, crystals, and couture-inspired embellishment. The pieces are not meant to sit quietly on a wall. Each one functions as what the artist calls a commanding identity object, built to transform the room around it.
Lucius draws from the theatrical imagination of Salvador Dalí, the cultural instinct of Andy Warhol, and the fearless craftsmanship of Alexander McQueen. His work occupies a space somewhere between contemporary art, haute couture fantasy, and edgy decadence. That combination has attracted a growing collector base and an online following hungry for visuals that feel alive.
Part of that momentum comes from a widely shared encounter with Lady Gaga. Lucius' cultural visibility was amplified by a viral moment involving the pop icon, who approached and autographed one of his artworks live during an arena event. It was the kind of spontaneous, unscripted collision between pop music and visual art that social media devours. Clips circulated widely, and Lucius' name traveled with them.
Opening night guests will encounter a richly styled gallery experience featuring an immersive installation, live DJ, creative cocktails, food, limited-edition collectibles, and opportunities to meet the artist. Admission is complimentary with advance reservation, and original artworks will be available for acquisition. Guests are encouraged to arrive dressed in expressive, artfully inspired attire.
The venue itself has its own recent story. Gallery Anderson Smith celebrated its grand reopening in January at a new Midtown location after owner Anderson Smith relocated from Buckhead Village. Smith moved from Chicago to Atlanta in 1998 and spent years building community ties in the local art market. The 4,200-square-foot gallery operates across a two-level layout designed for contemporary exhibitions. Its Midtown home sits near the High Museum of Art, SCAD's Atlanta campus, and the Museum of Design Atlanta.
In its first months, the gallery has hosted exhibitions featuring pop art, Black artists, and capstone works from BFA students at SCAD. Bringing in Lucius signals a pivot toward artists building audiences outside traditional gallery circuits.
Lucius recently appeared on WMNF's The Big Gay Radio Show in Tampa, discussing the creative process and the themes that guide his work. With a profile that runs through fashion, spectacle, and emotional storytelling, Feast Your Eyes looks positioned to push Lucius beyond his regional base and into a wider national conversation.
