A side-by-side split-screen image features Pakistani actors Hamza Ali Abbasi and Hania Amir. On the left side, Hamza Ali Abbasi stands with his arms crossed over his chest, facing forward with a gentle smile. He has short, slicked-back dark hair, a neatly trimmed beard, and a mustache. He is wearing a dark, charcoal-gray, long-sleeved button-up shirt with the collar slightly open. The background behind him is softly blurred, showing a warm, ambient-lit indoor setting with horizontal window blinds and a glowing light fixture. On the right side, Hania Amir stands angled slightly to the side while looking toward the camera with a subtle expression. Her long, dark, wavy hair is parted down the middle, with a portion pulled back. She wears a white, wide-collared button-down shirt beneath a bright, lime-yellow tailored blazer and light sage-green trousers with her left hand tucked into the pocket. An elegant, patterned silk scarf in shades of olive, white, and yellow is tied around her neck, and she wears silver hoop earrings. Pakistani television's biggest casting announcements tend to land without warning, and this week's is no exception.

Hamza Ali Abbasi has signed on to lead Goongay Behray Khwab, a new drama serial set to air on Hum TV. The project marks his return to the channel after a considerable hiatus, one that stretches back to 2016.

His last appearance on Hum TV was Mann Mayal, the romantic drama that became one of the channel's most-watched serials that year. That series earned him the Best Actor trophy at the 5th Hum Awards. A full decade later, he is back on the network where his small-screen career began.

Hamza Ali Abbasi and Hina Afridi are officially pairing up for the first time in HUM TV's upcoming drama serial titled Goongay Behray Khawab. This project marks a significant milestone as it is Hamza's highly anticipated return to HUM TV nearly a decade after his 2016 blockbuster Mann Mayal. The promotional image for the upcoming HUM TV drama serial Goongay Behray Khawab features lead actors Hamza Ali Abbasi and Hina Afridi standing close together in traditional Pakistani attire against a dramatic, warm-toned twilight sky with an old Mughal-style building in the background. Hamza stands on the left, dressed in a solid black kurta with a matching shawl over his shoulder, smiling gently at the camera with his hand resting on Hina's shoulder. Hina stands slightly in front of him on the right, wearing an elegant white georgette or organza tunic decorated with delicate blue and purple floral embroidery, intricate lace detailing along the neckline and cuffs, and highly stylized, oversized white floral drop earrings that frame her face. Her expression is solemn and intense, characterized by flushed, rosy cheeks and a soft pink lip, creating a striking contrast with Hamza's relaxed demeanor.

Abbasi will star opposite Hina Afridi in the upcoming serial.

Afridi, a Pakistani actress and model, made her acting debut in the television drama Pehli Si Muhabbat in 2021. She has since appeared in the film Akhara (2024) and starred in the Hum TV serial Raaja Rani (2025), performing alongside veteran actor Faysal Quraishi.

Her last show, Ghulam Badshah Sundari, was a superhit. At just 25, she has built a CV that keeps landing her next to the industry's biggest names. Pairing her with Abbasi feels like a deliberate bet on generational contrast.

Behind the camera, Goongay Behray Khwab will be directed by Saife Hassan.

Hamza Ali Abbasi is a prominent Pakistani actor, director, and author widely recognized for his selective yet highly impactful performances in television and cinema. Born on June 23, 1984, he briefly served as a civil servant before transitioning full-time into the entertainment industry, where he rose to immense fame through iconic roles like Afzal in the drama serial Pyarey Afzal and subsequent television hits such as Mann Mayal, Alif, and Jaan-e-Jahan. On the big screen, he starred in major blockbusters including Waar and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, and most notably portrayed the legendary antagonist Noori Natt in The Legend of Maula Jatt, the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time. Beyond acting, Abbasi identifies as a student of Islam, frequently speaking about his spiritual journey and authoring the book My Discovery of God, Islam & Judgement Day. He is married to former actress Naimal Khawar Abbasi, with whom he has a son named Mustafa, and is currently set to make a highly anticipated television return in the upcoming drama serial Goongay Behray Khwaab.

Hassan has worked as a director for more than ten years at Hum TV and directs exclusively for the channel. His directorial credits include acclaimed dramas like Sang-e-Mar Mar (2016), Sammi (2017), Ehd-e-Wafa (2019), Sang-e-Mah (2022), Jhok Sarkar (2023), and Zard Patton Ka Bunn (2024). His current show, Aap Ki Izzat, is another hit with viewers, and the writer for the new drama is Zafarullah Khan.

The casting carries weight for reasons beyond nostalgia. Abbasi is one of the biggest names in Pakistan's entertainment industry, having proved himself in both dramas and films, though he works very selectively.

He began his television career in 2012 with a supporting role in Meray Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley before gaining fame through lead roles in Pyarey Afzal (2013), and his film breakthrough came with the action thriller Waar the same year. Since stepping away from Hum TV after Mann Mayal, his television work has bounced between rival networks.

Hina Afridi is a rapidly rising Pakistani television actress, model, and former beauty blogger who has quickly carved out a prominent niche in the Urdu entertainment industry since her acting debut. Born on June 16, 2001, in Multan and raised in a traditional Pakhtoon family, she initially gained a substantial online following for her fashion and beauty content before transitioning into mainstream media. Her brother, Shoaib Khan, is a highly celebrated celebrity makeup artist who supported her entry into showbiz. She first captivated television audiences in 2021 with her fresh portrayal of Bushra in the popular drama serial Pehli Si Muhabbat. Over the years, she has demonstrated remarkable growth and versatility by securing lead roles in several major projects, including Kacha Dhaga, Qissa E Dil, Akhara, Raaja Rani, and Ghulam Badshah Sundri. Known for prioritizing empowering and strong-willed female characters over stereotypical "helpless" roles, she continues to secure major network television contracts, recently headlining the ARY Digital drama Mirza Ki Heer. Adding to her momentum, she has been officially cast to star alongside veteran actor Hamza Ali Abbasi in HUM TV's upcoming serial Goongay Behray Khwaab. In her personal life, she maintains a close relationship with her father, and she recently dominated entertainment headlines after marrying popular digital content creator Taimoor Akbar in an intimate Nikah ceremony.

He led Alif on Geo Entertainment in 2019, followed by Jaan-e-Jahan on ARY Digital in 2023 and Faraar on Green Entertainment in 2024. His willingness to return to Hum TV after all that time says something about the material.

No release date has been confirmed yet for Goongay Behray Khwab, and story details remain under wraps. The title, which loosely translates to "deaf and mute dreams," hints at something darker and more internal than Abbasi's recent projects.

With Hassan steering the ship and Afridi bringing new-generation energy, the combination has genuine potential to become one of the year's most talked-about serials.
