Pakistani television's biggest names keep finding new ways to raise the stakes. Ahad Raza Mir and Yumna Zaidi are set to share the screen for the first time in an upcoming Hum TV drama titled Cafe Firaq.
The serial is written by Hashim Nadeem and directed by Ali Hassan. Reports indicate the project is based on the story of an Iranian family, with filming expected to begin soon. Nadeem himself has described the venture in candid terms on social media. He considers the project a "risky experiment," a telling remark from a writer whose instincts have rarely steered him wrong.
A release window of late 2026 or early 2027 has been reported, though no official date has been confirmed by the network. Much of the production's finer detail remains unconfirmed, including the complete cast and episode count.
Mir brings rare range to the project. The son of actor Asif Raza Mir, he trained as a theatre artist in Canada before returning to Karachi in 2016 and breaking through with the romantic drama Yaqeen Ka Safar in 2017, which earned him a Lux Style Award for Best Actor. Roles in Ehd-e-Wafa as an army officer and Yeh Dil Mera as a complex lead further showcased his versatility. His international career took off with Netflix's Resident Evil in 2022 and BBC's World on Fire in 2023. Most recently, he played Talha, a single father, in Hum TV's Meem Se Mohabbat.
Zaidi, meanwhile, has quietly become the most decorated actress in the history of Pakistani award ceremonies. She holds seven Lux Style Awards and two Hum Awards. Her career began 12 years ago with a supporting role in Thakan. Still, the performer audiences know today was forged in demanding dramas like Pyar Ke Sadqay, Bakhtawar, and Dar Si Jaati Hai Sila. Among her standout performances is Annie, a blind radio jockey in Parizaad, where she happened to be working from Nadeem's script. That prior collaboration adds a layer of familiarity to this reunion. In 2022, she earned significant recognition for her role in Tere Bin, a serial that crossed borders and turned her into a regional phenomenon.
Nadeem's own track record is practically a shorthand for prestige Pakistani television. His credits include Parizaad, Khuda Aur Mohabbat, Ishq Zahe Naseeb, and Raqs-e-Bismil. He won the Hum Award for Best Writer for both Parizaad and Jhok Sarkar. On Instagram, Nadeem shared AI-generated character sketches of Cafe Firaq, noting that "rains and trains" are "the basic ingredients of screenplay" this time around. That focus on atmosphere and movement hints at a story less confined to drawing rooms and more invested in landscape.
Some confusion has swirled around the title, with fan-made posters circulating under the alternate name Kaif e Firaq and pairing Mir with Ayeza Khan. Those posters appear to be unofficial fan artwork, not sanctioned promotional material.
If reports hold, the pairing will mark Mir and Zaidi's first on-screen collaboration, a fact that alone has been enough to push Cafe Firaq to the top of every anticipation list in the Pakistani drama landscape. With Nadeem's pen and Hassan's direction locking in around a narrative that appears to stretch well beyond the genre's typical boundaries, the serial carries genuine weight heading into its production phase.
