Mahershala Ali has officially exited Marvel Studios' Blade reboot, confirming that he has completely "moved on" from the project after seven years in development hell. First announced in July 2019, the film collapsed due to continuous script rewrites and the departure of multiple directors. Ali laid the responsibility on Marvel, noting that despite having billions of dollars and holding him under contract, they chose not to make the movie, while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige admitted feeling like a "failure" for not being able to secure an "insanely great" script. Consequently, Ali's only canonical appearance as the character remains an uncredited, voice-only audio cameo in the post-credits scene of 2021's Eternals. He has since repurposed his intensive sword and physical training from the project into a new action thriller titled Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, directed by former Blade helmer Bassam Tariq.
