Masao Nakahara is a contemporary Japanese painter and sculptor whose dreamlike artworks blend childhood memories, traditional folklore, and reflections on human mortality. Born in Saitama, Japan, in 1956, Nakahara has lived and worked in Düsseldorf, Germany, since the early 1980s. After a massive 30-year hiatus from the public art scene—during which he worked primarily as a translator—he experienced a major career revival in 2021.
