R.M. Naeem is a prominent Pakistani contemporary artist, educator, and curator based in Lahore. Born in Mirpurkhas in 1968, he graduated with distinction from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, in 1993 and joined its faculty the following year, shaping generations of artists over a three-decade teaching career. His unique visual language masterfully fuses the precise draftsmanship of traditional miniature painting with modern, surrealist aesthetics. His canvases frequently feature serene, sculpted human profiles set against smooth color gradients and geometric architectures, serving as symbols to explore human connectivity, cultural identity, and spiritual introspection.
Beyond his personal studio practice, Naeem is a vital catalyst for the regional art community. In 2008, he founded Studio RM, an independent art center in Lahore that hosts a highly regarded international artist residency program, fostering cross-cultural dialogues between Pakistani talent and global creatives. His work has been showcased in over 20 solo exhibitions and major international art fairs and biennales. In recognition of his enduring impact on the nation's cultural landscape, he was awarded the National Award of Excellence in 2003 and received the prestigious President’s Pride of Performance award in 2023.
