Kent Moran's psychological thriller "The One," which he is writing, directing, and starring in, has set Emily Kinney, Hayley McFarland, Zach Roerig, and Catherine Curtin. The casting news was reported exclusively by Deadline and signals a clear push toward grounded, character-driven suspense.
The Wishing Well Pictures production follows Jackie, played by Kinney, a successful entrepreneur searching for lasting love. When she begins a whirlwind romance with the seemingly perfect Colt, she believes she may have found the one. But after ending the relationship, Jackie discovers Colt's obsession runs far deeper than she imagined, setting off a dangerous game of control, manipulation, and survival.
Moran spoke directly about what the project means to him. "I'm thrilled to be collaborating with such an extraordinary cast," he said, adding that "at its core, 'The One' examines how the desire for connection can become distorted into something far more dangerous."
Kinney, born August 15, 1984, in Wayne, Nebraska, is known widely for her role as Beth Greene on AMC's "The Walking Dead," where she appeared from 2011 to 2015 before returning in later years. Taking the lead role of Jackie, she anchors what looks to be a heavily character-focused narrative.
McFarland brings strong genre credibility to the project. She is best known for portraying Emily Lightman in the Fox crime drama "Lie to Me" and played Nancy Perron in the supernatural horror film "The Conjuring." Her experience across both drama and horror makes her a natural fit for a film built on psychological tension.
Roerig shot to television stardom with prominent roles on the primetime hits "Friday Night Lights" and "The Vampire Diaries." His addition brings a strong dramatic presence to the ensemble. Curtin, meanwhile, is best known for her role as correctional officer Wanda Bell in the Netflix comedy-drama "Orange Is the New Black." In 2017, she also began a recurring role as Dustin's mother Claudia Henderson in the Netflix horror series "Stranger Things."
Moran himself is an American actor and filmmaker best known for his roles in "Listen to Your Heart" and "The Challenger." Taking on all three major roles behind and in front of the camera signals a deeply personal project for the filmmaker.
The film's premise leans into familiar but proven thriller territory. A romance that curdles into obsession, a woman fighting to reclaim control, and a threat hiding behind charm. With a cast this versed in genre television, "The One" has real potential to land as a tightly wound feature.
On the representation side, Moran is with Universal Talent Management, Kinney with Paradigm Talent Agency and Gilbertson Entertainment, McFarland with Joseph Le Talent Agency and Link Entertainment, Roerig with Innovative Artists, and Curtin with Artists and Representatives.
