Pakistani television has spent years teasing what a real Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali pairing would look like. That wait is now officially over.
Mitti De Baway, a new Green Entertainment drama, has become the most talked about project in Lollywood this month. The reason is simple. It marks the first full-length television collaboration between Khan and Ali, two actors who rarely need an introduction to South Asian audiences.
The buzz did not start with a trailer. It started months earlier, when Khan and Ali appeared together in a commercial that quietly went viral. The ad, released in January 2026, showed the two as former lovers reconnecting at a wedding, dancing to the classic track "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya." That brief appearance was enough to convince fans they deserved a full drama together. Green Entertainment clearly agreed.
The channel has been rolling out details in careful stages. It recently revealed the drama's title, giving fans the first major update on a project that had remained surrounded by mystery, built around the first television pairing of Khan and Ali. The announcement itself leaned into the suspense. Green Entertainment's official caption read, "The speculation had a story behind it. Now, we know its name. MITTI DE BAWAY. Coming Soon on Green Entertainment."
First-look posters followed soon after. Released on a Monday, they immediately stirred social media, with Khan appearing as a mysterious woman in black, her face partly hidden behind a veil, seated with prayer beads against an earthy backdrop. Ali's own first glimpse carried an equally rugged tone. Neither poster gave away plot details. That restraint appears deliberate.
Then came the trailer. Green Entertainment confirmed it would drop on Tuesday, August 25. It did, and it filled in gaps the posters had left open. Ali plays a character named Bala, and reports suggest he underwent a serious physical transformation for the role, with early glimpses showing him with a sculpted physique and holding a gun.
The story itself sits in a specific place and time. Khan plays Billo, later known as Bilqees Bano and addressed as "Bari Sarkar," while Ali plays Baala, with the drama unfolding across two key periods, 1998 and 2002. It is a love story complicated by distance. Set against a period backdrop in Punjab, the serial follows two people whose youthful love is reshaped by separation, shifting circumstances and unresolved conflict.
Even the title carries weight. The phrase Mitti De Baway comes from a Punjabi expression referring to figures or dolls made from clay. How that symbolism ties into Billo and Baala's arc has not been explained. Green Entertainment seems content to let audiences guess for now.
Behind the camera, the credits are settled. The project has been written by Faiza Iftikhar, directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain, and produced by Tehreem Chaudhary. Supporting the leads are Junaid Khan, Hina Afridi and Amar Khan, though several other roles remain under wraps.
Timing matters here too. The drama also marks Khan's return to television screens after three years away. Ali, meanwhile, has stayed busy. He was last seen in the 2025 release Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi before signing on to this project.
A firm premiere date has not landed yet. Industry speculation currently points to a late September or early October 2026 release. Until Green Entertainment confirms it, fans are left with the trailer, a title steeped in folk symbolism, and a pairing three years in the making.
